SPEEDWEEKS EVENT AT JACKSON MOTOR SPEEDWAY!!!
Atlanta, GA / Byram, MS –
May 18, 2014 – The United Sprint Car Series Outlaw Thunder Tour presented by
K&N Filters winged sprint cars headline the 17th annual Ival Cooper Memorial
Race at Jackson Motor Speedway in Byram, Mississippi on Saturday, May 23rd. The
historic track’s speed spectacular honors the legendary Southern Modified and
Super Modified race car driver Ival Cooper who hailed from Jackson, Mississippi.
It will be the second straight year that the United Sprint Car Series has served
as headliners for the event that also features the K&N Filters USCS Outlaw
Modifieds and Stock Car Racing.
The exotic USCS Outlaw Thunder winged
sprint cars weight only 1300 pounds with 700+ horsepower engines. Those two
elements in addition to a huge 25 square foot top wing and seventeen inch wide
specially designed Hoosier rear race tires make them the fastest cars ever to
compete on the high-banked ¼ mile oval. The USCS outlaw sprint cars are expected
to reach speeds over 100 miles per hour on the straight-aways at Jackson Motor
Additionally, the event is the opening event night for the
five race over eight night USCS Sprint Speed Week 2015. The event at JMS awards
the USCS Outlaw Thunder Tour drivers with both USCS Outlaw Thunder National
championship and Mid South Thunder Tour regional series championship points. The
Mid South regional series competes in Arkansas, Alabama, Mississippi, Missouri
and Tennessee. The event is expected to draw drivers from six or more states
including some of the top ranked drivers in North America.
this year, the United Sprint Car Series presented by K&N Filters opened
their Speedweek mini-series at Jackson Motor Speedway on May 25, 2013. The
event, then entitled the USCS “Night of Thunder”, was won by 2012 USCS National
Champion, Tim Crawley from Benton, Arkansas. The 2013 USCS Sprint Car Speedweek
opener saw Crawley best a 32 car field of drivers from five states in the USCS
Sprint Car division. Local driver Billy Colleit collected the win in the K&N
Filters USCS Outlaw Modifieds..
During the 16th annual Ival Cooper
Memorial Race, sanctioned by the USCS for the first time in 2014, the 2013
United Sprint Car Series National Champion, Derek Hagar from Marion, Arkansas
captured the victory over 26 of the best on May 24th. Kentucky’s Tait Davenport
raced from the eleventh row of the K&N Filters USCS Modified main event into
the www.rockauto.com USCS
Victory Lane in that 25 lap main event.
In addition to the USCS Outlaw
Thunder Tour winged sprint cars, the racing card includes the K&N Filters
USCS Outlaw Modifieds and the speedway’s Modified division regulars, who square
off in a battle royal with $1000 going to the winner. The Jackson Motor Speedway
weekly Nesmith Chevrolet Street Stock division is also on the racing card
competing in a $600 to win event sponsored by Sauls Farm. In addition to a $600
payout to the winner there is over $400 in bonus money up for grabs for the
competitors in the Nesmith Street Stock Division. A $100 hard charger award has
been sponsored by Reed’s Metals, a $100 bonus to the top finishing crate motor

driver that travels the furthest to get to Jackson Motor Speedway Saturday night
to compete in the Nesmith Street Stock division. The all new Factory Stock
division will also be in action.
But the biggest news of the weekend is the
addition of the Super Late Model Division to the racing program this Saturday
night sponsored by Eaks Nursery. The 750 horse power, ground pounding Super Late
Models will be competing in a 20 lap, $1,500 to win event that will carry no
entry fee and pay $100 to start. Some of the top Super Late Model drivers in the
area including Bub McCool, Jimmy and Jason Cliburn, Henry Cooper, and Chad
Thrash are expected to be on hand plus many more.
Race fans are sure to
get their money’s worth with a full night of non-stop family entertainment that
includes a guarantee of plenty of thrills, chills and spills from the time the
green flag flies for the USCS Outlaw Modified Dash race until the checkered flag
falls on the final main event of the evening.
